  This is an typical urban square, close to the famous Parliament building, the second largest in the world. Its name honors the Romania's participation in Francophony movement, as well as the deep respect Romania is showing to France, its ally and friend for centuries. The ties are so close, that in the first part of XX Century Bucharest used to be named The Little Paris. The city still maintains some French treasures, particularly in arhitecture and style.
