  This is not the most impressive of the many Orthodox Churches in Bucharest, but it was the most meaningful one I visited today. When I arrived the church was in darkness and looking quite dreary. But a few minutes later the priest arrived and seeing me began to switch on all the lights. What lovely murals. Then he began explaining everything to me (in Romania, which I don't understand at all, while he didn't understand English). But somehow we communicated, and I was touched by the deep reverence and meaning these icons have for him. And then he took me behind the screen! What a surprise! I had to stand on the lintel, but I could see everything inside and he explained what the murals there meant. What a visit!
