This is the church of my childhood. A very important church of the Greek Orthodox rith. My school ( Școala Nr. 2 ) was part of the church in the interbelic period. I recommend to see it when there is no service.

Fanurie. Greek Church Metamorphosis is the oldest Orthodox church in Constanta. Built from 1862 with the approval of Abdul Aziz Bin Mehmet Han Sultan with the sole condition that it is to be smaller in height than any mosque in the city. The Greek architect Iani Teohardi used bricks, natural stone, sustain pillars of cedar wood and marble brought from Greece. Until 1948 the religious service was held by Greek priests. Since 1974 it was transferred to Romanian Ortodox Church by the Greek community. In the present it doesn't follow the Greek religious cult, but respects only one holiday on August 27th dedicated to St. Fanurie, when the Greek community of Constanta comes together.
